I Was Never the Same

image.jpeg

In a feather’s infancy
It is encased and protected
By a straw-like covering

As it matures, it begins
To release from this protection
Until it spreads out to freedom

In it’s freedom it soars
With it’s host… experiencing
Flight for leisure and for self-preservation

At a nature-ordained moment
The feather has served its purpose, it
Drifts down gracefully to rest

Commingled with other molted feathers
On the once-distant bed of dust and green
Grass… It crawls with the breeze to eternity

The parallels between my life and
The life of that feather sobered me and
I was never the same
